Play Synopsis
“Secrets Men Keep,” is the brand new stage play
based on the bestselling novel, “Secrets Men Keep,” by
Dr. Tiy-E. In this four act stage play, set in Atlanta 2005,
Dr. Tiy-E uses humor to tackle the key issues that affect most
relationships today. The backdrop of the play is the office
of Dr. She’mia Muhammad, she is the therapist that each
of the main characters goes to see, in hopes that she can help
them overcome their issues. The play is narrated through the
minds of the four main male characters: Vaughn, Trevore, Darryl,
and Chuck.
Vaughn is an aspiring artist, who is newly
married, and still struggling with being committed to his
wife, and with the other
responsibilities that come with being a husband. His turning
point comes when he is forced to tell his wife… he not
only lost their house… but he has been having an affair
since they’ve been married.
Trevore is an exotic dancer who is not very well
endowed, but makes the ladies scream with desire as he performs
every
night wearing a sock to make him look large. When he falls
for one of his best customers, he has to face the fact that
the truth will soon be out of the bag, (literally) and she
may or may not still be attracted to him.
Darryl, drives a big car and has a big
mouth… The only
thing missing is his height. At 5’ 3”, he is often
mistaken for being much younger than he really is. He not only
has to deal with rejection from the ladies who are mostly taller
than him… but he also has to deal with the jokes his
friends make about him being a “little man.”
Chuck, is a man who has doesn’t know
how to treat a woman, and when it comes to relationships,
he is definitely
his own worst enemy. He grew up without a male role model and
therefore has no clue how to love, respect, or even talk to
females. He knows what kind of woman he wants to marry, but
he has to learn some basic manners before he is ready to even
approach the type of woman he wants.
The
play “Secrets Men Keep,” is
full of lessons on how to love and be loved. Through each
of the main characters,
Dr. Tiy-E shares advice on how to overcome the challenges that
are a natural part of any relationship.
